"alright we can hang up now" πŸ”₯

GOOD NEWS πŸ””πŸ§ΉπŸ’¦ (I'm just a little bit excited for the day I can see Wicked part 2) BUT I'm back and happier than last week haha. It turns out lack of sun and mass amounts of cloudy days on end will get to a fella-

ANYWHOSIE here some updates:

🎁 We start with a referral. We call this referral and we kinda think to ourselves, hmm this guy sounds like 12...turns out it's because he IS 12 but hey he wanted a Book of Mormon for his friend's birthday party!

🎁 Next we have the phone call. So, we get called by a random number but when we answer we have basically no idea what this guy is saying in Finnish. This surprises us because, well, we can understand most things at this point, or at least enough for context that leads to greater understanding. However, that just wasn't happening so he eventually gives up on us and switches to Finnish, telling us that he wanted to know if we have a chimney and if we want it cleaned. We explained that we did in fact not have a chimney and that we're church volunteers, and this is why we had mistaken him for someone we "must have met on the street". We kinda laugh and then he says "Alright, we can hang up now" (TITLE) and it was SO funny

🎁 Now a shoutout to our amazing Ukrainian friend who speaks very very little Finnish! We've been teaching this guy consistently since we met him on the street through different translators on video calls and he's awesome. He's been keeping commitments we give him, like coming to church this week! We were so excited because we found a member in the 2nd ward who could translate the meeting into Russian for him ( yes he is also fluent in Russian) Embarrassingly, the member did not end up coming to church soooooooo we were left to listening to the talks and typing what we understood into translate as fast as we possibly could. It was lowkey a disaster BUT not because he was so understanding and such a good sport about it all. I think we all walked away from that experience as better friends if nothing else haha

🎁 I'm grateful for...AMAZING TURKU MEMBERS! We had a very lovely Thanksgiving dinner with all the other missionaries in Turku (so all 8 of us at once) and Sister Perry and I had an opportunity to bake 2 pies! I've decided pie is really good. Specifically pumpkin and apple pie. Reminds me of my first transfer when Sister Wynn (hey Wynn if you're reading this I LOVE YOU) made a few chocolate cakes and totally changed my mind about them. I now like chocolate cake!

🎁 Tis the season! We had a Christmas concert and it was the cat's pajamas! (so they say) I really missed my high school christmas concert haha. I got to be part of a choir again, play some serious triangle, but yeah just mostly sing a lot :)

HENGELLINEN SANOMA πŸ€
Ether 2:25
"Behold, I prepare you against these things, for ye cannot cross this great deep save I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which shall come. What will ye that I should prepare for you that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?"

I read a super good talk this week and I want to share a bit with you guys. It includes this verse of scripture and presents the idea that although God is all powerful and could have calmed the storm for these travelers, He didn't. Why didn't He? Better question, why doesn't He? When the storms of life are all around us, why doesn't He just calm them? It's because He prepares us for these storms we face. In the talk Michael Wilcox says, "Somewhere in your past life, experiences have been placed by a wise and foresighted Father in Heaven to prepare you to face the very thing you are facing." I have a strong testimony of this truth. I've always said God doesn't give us trials we can't overcome, although admittedly I still struggle in these trials because honestly, they usually don't feel like something I can overcome. But I feel like that's kinda the beauty of it all. God showing you what He already knows you're capable of! Only He knows how strong you really are, what a cool way to show us our strengths. It's not easy, but the best things take EFFORT. Don't give up! You got this! He's got you and He won't ever let you go!

Love yall! Have an amazing week and go tell your families you love them πŸ«Ά
